Dr. Phillip Bailey is Associate Vice President for Global Learning and Engagement at the University of Central Arkansas.  A tenured, full professor of French, he served as Department Chair for 16 years before becoming UCA’s Senior International Officer in May 2017.  He is the author of Proust's Self-Reader:  The Pursuit of Literature as Privileged Communication and has published numerous articles on foreign language anxiety and teaching empathy through literature. He holds a BA degree in French and Humanities from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota and a MA (1987) and Ph.D. (1993) in French from the University of Virginia.
