Julie Kane’s most recent book publication is Naked Ladies: New and Selected Poems (LSU Press, 2025). Previous books include winners of the National Poetry Series, Donald Justice Poetry Prize, and Poetry by the Sea Book Prize. Her poems appear in more than sixty anthologies and textbooks including Best American Poetry and The Book of Irish American Poets from the Eighteenth Century to the Present. With Kiem Do, she co-authored the nonfiction Vietnam memoir Counterpart: A Vietnamese Naval Officer’s War, which became a History Book Club Featured Alternate Selection. A past Fulbright Scholar and Louisiana State Poet Laureate, she has taught creative writing at Tulane University, Western Colorado University, and Northwestern State University. She is married to fiction writer Robert Olen Butler.
