Suzanne Kamata is the author of a bilingual picture book, Playing for Papa; a middle grade novel; Pop Flies, Robo-pets and Other Disasters (One Elm Press, 2020), a Skipping Stones Honor Book; and three young adult novels, Gadget Girl: The Art of Being Invisible (GemmaMedia, 2013), named a Book of Outstanding Merit by Bank Street College of Education and an APALA Youth Literature Honor Book; Screaming Divas (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2014), which was named to the ALA Rainbow List; and Indigo Girl (GemmaMedia, 2019), winner of an SCBWI Crystal Kite Award and a Nautilus Gold Award. Her stories for children have been published in a variety of publications including Ladybug, Cricket, Cicada, Skipping Stones, Oxford University Press’s Dragonfly Readers (Hong Kong), and elsewhere. She often visits international schools in Japan, and has appeared at book festivals such as the Asian Festival of Children’s Content in Singapore, the Japan Writers Conference, the Deckle Edge Book Festival (South Carolina), and the Decatur Book Festival (Georgia). In addition to writing, she is an associate professor at Naruto University of Education in Japan. She has recently received a significant grant to research the use of picture books in English Language education. Her academic articles related to this topic have appeared in Children’s Literature in English Language Education, The Journal of Literature in Language Teaching, The School House, and elsewhere.
